Review: Extra Dry Cider by Farnum Hill

Sweetness: Dry

ABV: 7.50%

Cider Maker’s Description

Farnum Hill Extra Dry Cider is radically dry, layered with tropical fruit and intriguing herbal and mineral notes, around elegantly balanced acidity, bitterness, and tannic character. On its own, FHXD enhances the moment. With food, it brightens and complements flavors from subtle to spicy, and refreshes the palate.

Appearance:

  • Crystal clear, rich yellow color.

Carbonation:

  • Very little carbonation on pour.

Aromas:

  • barnyard funky, not musty,

Taste:

  • great English style, oaky,

Mouthfeel:

  • Acidic and astringent

Finish:

  • Astringency lingers, otherwise a quick finish

Tasting Notes / General Impression

Occasionally I like to sit and just enjoy a cider. If I get the opportunity to try this again, there will be better notes next time.

Matthew favors dry hard ciders with body and leans towards traditional English styles, and he’s also developed a serious appreciation for hopped ciders and creative flavor infused ciders. Though he prefers sweets in solid forms, he does enjoy semi-sweet to sweet ciders responsibly when the mood strikes. Learn more about our Chief Cider Curator here.
