Review: Envy – Apple Wine with Hops by Rev. Nat’s Hard Cider

Sweetness: Dry

ABV: 10.20%

Cider Maker’s Description

I was always envious of brewers and thier hops. For this drink, we used Hops in the boil, Hops in the whirlpool, Hops in the fermenter and Hops in the brite. This Beast of a cider is more akin to beer than apple juice.

Appearance:

  • dark golden brown, opaque

Carbonation:

  • carbonation similar to beer

Aromas:

  • hops, malt, raisin,

Taste:

  • HOPS!, raisin, dried fruit (prune, figs), alcohol, bitter, full bodied, full flavor, has notes of brown ale,

Mouthfeel:

  • balanced, tannic

Finish:

  • long beer-like finish

Tasting Notes / General Impression

good beer drinkers cider, farmhouse ale or sour like, great gateway cider for beer drinkers

Matthew favors dry hard ciders with body and leans towards traditional English styles, and he’s also developed a serious appreciation for hopped ciders and creative flavor infused ciders. Though he prefers sweets in solid forms, he does enjoy semi-sweet to sweet ciders responsibly when the mood strikes. Learn more about our Chief Cider Curator here.
